My client are a very well established SA Hospital in Central London, and are currently seeking 1 x full time, or 2 x part time Locum Vets to cover ongoing from February .
It’s a balanced clinical role within a fantastic and supportive team, ideally suited to a surgeon or an all-round GP.
Working 5 days per week, (8 hour shifts including 1 hour lunch break). The shifts are a mix of: 8-4pm consults, surgery or inpatients shifts, 11.20-7.20pm consults or 12-8pm consults/overnight inpatients (practice closes at 7pm), plus 1 day per week as the vet on-call for inpatients only (nurses on site, and just need to be on-call to offer support/ advice to the night nurse if needed and on rare occasions, clinical care to a critical patient (this has only been required maybe twice in the last 18 months).
There is a 1:6 weekend rota; 8-4pm Saturday and 8-4 or 9-5pm Sunday (close earlier on Sundays and the rest of the day can be admin from home if patients are settled and nursing plans in place). The weekend includes inpatient duty overnight (as above to support the nurses if needed) and TOIL of 4 day weekend the following Thursday and Friday off is offered.
They will provide support for any training you may need in the role. There are daily morning rounds with time for case discussion with colleagues and daily planning. They have a medicine and an imaging certificate holder on the team as well as a specialist exotics service. There is a head and senior nurse on rota every day to help coordinate and plan the day, dedicated inpatient nurse, surgical ward nurse, dedicated theatre nurse and nursing assistant, clinics nurse, dispensary assistants and nursing assistants/ trainee nurses to assist with consults/meds alongside a reception team. There is a team manager on call every day to offer advice/support if needed also. Many locums end up staying or returning due to the supportive work environment and incredible team of teaching staff.
Consults are 20 minutes, with 40 minute slots for complex cases. Each vet works with 2 vet students per shift, demonstrating practice and guiding their skill development (training and induction is provided for this - no teaching experience required and this is a great career progression step to have on your CV!).
There is onsite accommodation for on-call and weekend shifts with allocated parking if needed and full time accommodation will be available from end of January if required. And they also have an onsite gym and cafeteria with subsidised food and costa coffee.
Payments must be via an Umbrella company, or for locums wishing to work for longer term (3-6 months +) they can offer PAYE with access to their catalogue of online CPD during this time.
NB - they are also recruiting permanently for a senior vet with a surgical certificate (already obtained or enrolled) and a head vet, so this role could lead to something more permanent if interested.
