The RSPCA is seeking two qualified and registered Veterinary Nurses to join the Veterinary Team at its Animal Hospital in the West Midlands.
• Salary: £27,928 - £30,160 (inclusive of 4% shift allowance)
• Permanent, 35 hours per week, based on a 10-week rolling rota.
• Day shifts: 8:00am – 3:30pm
• Evening shifts: 2:30pm – 10:00pm
• Night shifts: 10:00pm – 8:00am (one week in every ten, with a 33% night shift allowance)
Reporting to a Nursing Team Leader, the successful candidates will contribute to a dedicated team of seven Veterinary Surgeons, 20 RVNs, and nine support staff.
Night shifts primarily involve caring for non-critical inpatients. The hospital, situated in a rural 70-acre countryside setting just 20 minutes from central Birmingham, offers excellent motorway access and modern, spacious facilities.
Veterinary Nurses at the hospital play a crucial role in supporting animal welfare, particularly through cases referred by RSPCA Inspectors and affiliated centres. Duties span across medical and surgical care for a wide range of patients, including cats, dogs, and wildlife.
Key Responsibilities:
• Support welfare and case work
• Deliver direct patient care
• Maintain accurate clinical records
• Dispense medications per guidelines
• Uphold hygiene and biosecurity standards
• Monitor anaesthesia and assist in theatre procedures
• Participate in community outreach initiatives
• Engage in continuous professional development
Requirements:
• RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse qualification
• Relevant experience in clinical or welfare settings (veterinary practices, wildlife centres, etc.)
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Clinical decision-making and prioritization skills
• Initiative and autonomy in professional practice

• A DBS check may be required for successful applicants
