Small Animal and Equine house vet / Intern Role.

Based in a popular area of Essex, my client is looking for a small animal and equine house vet to join their existing team.

This role is aimed at giving new graduates a sound foundation in all the key skill areas of Small Animal and Equine medicine and surgery, whilst in return providing my client with continuity in veterinary staff and a valuable backup system.

The position will be challenging and requires hard work, but will provide a very rewarding foundation to a veterinary career.

It is certainly an ideal start for new graduates, wishing to pursue a career in equine or companion animal practice.

The practice will provide guidance and expect high standards in clinical skills, client care and communication.

You will be working alongside two vets, with a 1 in 2 rota system for out of hours, covering each other’s absences for holidays and courses.

Most of the Housevet’s out of hours cover will involve providing back up for the other vets, including veterinary care for in-patients and involvement in surgical procedures and clinical investigations. Although this rota is intensive on time spent being available, it is our understanding that it is not as heavy on time spent actually working.

The normal working day begins at 8.00am.

The daily duties and commitments will vary day by day, as detailed in the rota.

When on duty, the Housevet is expected to be able to respond to the pager within 5 minutes, and they must remain within the practice area to be able to attend the clinic within 30 minutes.

This job is offered on a fixed term contract.

If, at the end of, or during, the internship, there is a suitable vacancy within the practice, the Housevet may be invited to apply.

On offer is a generous Salary with living accommodation (including service charges) and a practice vehicle with locally purchased fuel supplied.
There is a CPD allowance of 5 days and up to £1,000.
Housevets are entitled to 28 days annual leave (including bank holidays, subject to rota requirements).
